Charge for watch and tracking treadmill running

I'm not sure if I'm in the right section but today I use my treadmill to run and walk first time in a long time. My watch says completely different stats versus the treadmill. Very sad! Does the watch recognize treadmill running? If so how do we set it up? I have treadmill listed in my exercise list I clicked on it I pressed start and it tracked everything but half of what I did on the treadmill why is that? Very disappointed is it just me or is it the charge 4 watch

Were you holding onto the treadmill rails? It has a habit of missing steps when you do as your wrist (and therefore your fitbit) is not moving as it would when walking / running.
