How do we remove the steps and data? I have set up a second hand device and now there's data getting synced to my account which is not my data. States I've done 150000 steps & earned badges when I have not.

Try the steps outlined in this article, under How Do I Delete Personal Data? For the procedure, you'll need to use an email that's different from the one you're using currently with Fitbit. Hope this helps.
