Different calories reported via cues

I track 3 walks a day.  i recently learned how to turn on audible cues. I set cues for every mile and to give me distance, average, calories burned. What I have noticed over several dozen tracked walks ranging from 1.5 to 6 miles is that the calories reported via the audio cues is much different than what is reported when I stop the tracking event via the pause button followed by long pressing end.  Are the two reporting different metrics?  Based on my observations, it appears that calories reported buy cues only depends on distance and time (and only moderately so).  Calories reported when I end the tracking event, and what is shown on the device and dashboard are also dependent on heart rate.

Note that I use my phones GPS for distance and mapping, and set my GPS to high resolution.

Examples.   Yesterday I did a 4.65 mile walk in around 65 minutes.   Calories per mile were almost the same each mile at around 93.   Total aft 4 miles was 372. Total reported on the app and device at 4.65 miles was 580.  would have been as additional .65 × 92 calories via audio cue.  This behavior is the same on every walk for which I used audible cues.

Audible calories have ranged from 89 per milewalking casually at 3 MPH to 93 per mile walking very briskly at 4.25+ MPH.

Hi there @sutherlandws, good to see you one more time in the Fitbit Community! I was reading your post and thank you for all the details you have provided.

It is possible the information change based on your activity since your tracker detect subtle differences in exertion that may explain different results.

I'm wondering if you have the latest version of the Fitbit app? Many of this abnormalities are fix with regular updates of the Fitbit app. So I would like to recommend as an starting point to review if you have the Android Fitbit app version 2.61 (To the date of this post).

To see what version of the Fitbit app is installed on your device:

  1. Tap the menu button.
  2. Tap Help.
  3. Tap Fitbit App.

So lets review this and let me know how it goes.

My version is 2.56.  i don't see an option on the dashboard to update.  How do I update?  Then I can test it.

Hello @sutherlandws, the reason of the issue might be related to the version of the app. To update the Fitbit app is like any other app on your phone. Go to Google play and open your installed apps from the left upper corner menu and there should be available the most recent version of the Fitbit app to run the update.

It might be require to restart your phone after the update for the new version start running.

Hope this helps. See you later.

Updated the app. However, the calorie discrepancy is unchanged.

I'm having the same issue. Was there ever a resolution on this? I'm running the latest version of the app, also on Android. Thanks!

Hey @sutherlandws and @Stefanieleary, It seems like the calorie count discrepancies are happening between the audio cues and the end-event summaries. This could be due to how Fitbit calculates "active" calories (from your heart rate during workouts) and "total" calories (including your base metabolic rate). However, this is just a hypothesis. It might be a bug, and if so, Fitbit Support might be able to provide a more definitive answer. Meanwhile, do keep your apps updated, and remember that calorie counts are estimates, not exact numbers. Stay active, folks!
