Distance Tracking changes one I stop

This has happened to me a few times now. When I'm on a run I have the notifications on so it tells me how far I've gone and my pace.

But my run after I've hit a certain mileage for whatever reason it goes down. It happened 2 weeks ago but the difference was only like .03 so I didn't think much of it. However, today after it told me I ran 5 miles, I kept running for another minute before stopping my workout and then in my work at summary it tells me I've only run 4.85 miles.

I'm not sure which number is accurate. Based on my knowledge of my neighborhood, and my step counter I do believe I went 5 miles. This is super frustrating. Does anyone have an explanation or answer for this?

Running distance tracking is strange. If you see the distance shown on the map and then you will sum distance of all your splits it will be different. On the web dashboard it shows two different distances. There is no explanation why is that. Which distance is correct? Maybe one, maybe neither. More important is whether the distance on the same route stays consistent (then runner may look at relative pace and still get information on slower/faster pace and match pace onto RPE). Fitbits lack of such consistency (opinion based on Charge 2, Ionic, Sense and Sense 2). Fitbits are just not designed for runners.
