Editing Sleep Times Deleted Sleep Data

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

For the second time in the week that I've had my Pixel Watch, Fitbit couldn't get advanced sleep details, it only gave basic details, but it had data. It had my sleep as 20 mins longer than reality, though, so I decided to use this opportunity to edit the wake up time to when it actually happened. Once I saved the wake up time, it erased all my basic data, and replaced it with 0 time asleep, 0 times awake, 1 time restless, and 450 mins awake/restless.

I force closed the app, and reopened it, but it was still gone. I went onto the website, tried to edit it again, with the same result, except the website told me that if I edit the sleep, I will lose sleep data. The android app didn't give me that information. Please add the warning to the app in the edit sleep area.

Why does it delete the data when changing the start or endpoint of a sleep? Why would you give the option to edit if it will delete the data? Having the data for an incorrect amount of time is far better than removing it but having the correct start and wake time. Correct start and wake time is completely useless if the app thinks you were awake the entire time and now logs 0 hours slept that sleep without a way to get it back.

Hi there, @eKalb33. Welcome to the Community Forums. Nice to see you around, @Lambert69. Thanks for trying to troubleshoot this issue in the Fitbit app before reaching out. I understand where your concern is coming from.

Sorry to hear that you missed your sleep details after trying to edit your sleep log, this shouldn't be happening. Your Pixel Watch should be automatically detecting your sleep when you wear your device to bed.

In order to fix this, I recommend checking the following information since this avoid getting your sleep stages:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your device from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your device higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight.
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your device to bed). For more information on automatic sleep tracking, see How do I track my sleep with my Fitbit device?
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.
  • If your device’s battery is critically low.

For more information, see What should I know about Fitbit sleep stages? If this doesn't help, please restart your device and give it try again tonight.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply, but it does not help. My issue is not the sleep data not being recognized, it is that it's being deleted when I edit the duration. It originally recorded my sleep data automatically, just not with advanced sleep details. But that information got deleted when I tried to edit the sleep.

@eKalb33 Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry about this situation, at this moment we don't have the option to recover this data, as mentioned before this shouldn't be happening since you should be getting the correct sleep start/end schedule in the first place every morning after syncing your watch. Same thing with your sleep stages and sleep score.

There are a few scenarios where you might see your sleep pattern (which shows your time asleep, restless, and awake) instead of sleep stages, (see picture below). When this happens you can usually get more information about why you only see your sleep pattern by tapping the sleep record that shows your sleep pattern. I don't recommend trying to edit your sleep log until we confirm why you're not getting your sleep data.

In order to get your full sleep data lets try the following:

Confirm that you've restarted your watch. If you've already checked the information on my previous post, I'd also suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the Fitbit app on your phone. Confirm that all apps are updated in your Pixel Watch. To check for app updates on a Pixel Watch, do the following:

  1. Click the side button to open the app drawer.
  2. Scroll down to “Play Store” and tap it.
  3. Scroll to the bottom and tap “Manage apps”.
  4. If you have app updates, you’ll see them here.
  5. You can tap “Update all” or tap each individually to update them.

See you around.
