Thanks for bringing this to our attention and for the details that were shared. To better assist you with this, can you please let me know which Android mobile device are you using? When was the first time you experienced this issue and how many times since then? In the meantime I receive your answers, please try the following steps and let me know if the issue persists:

1. Force quit the Fitbit app.
2. Uninstall the app from your mobile device.
3. Make sure that the Android version is up to date.
4. Reboot your mobile device.
5. Reinstall the Fitbit app.
6. Login using your account credentials.

I have the same issue & none of the suggestions helped me..  I'm on a pixel 5, is updated as of a couple of days ago.  This happened last night when I tried to add a friend, both by username & email address. Happened today too.. I don't know her device, but it happened to her too

I also have error 404. I've tried all of this and I still cannot add anyone as a friend. I'm on a pixel 4a.

If the above troubleshooting tips are not working for you you can try clearing the cache to see if that helps. First log out of the Fitbit App then go to your phones settings, tap apps, find Fitbit in the list of apps and tap it then tap storage. Now tap clear cache then return to the Fitbit App and try to send a friends request again. If this doesn’t work I can’t fix what’s happening within the app but if the person your trying to add is a personal friend of yours I can offer a workaround that would work. Again it’s just a workaround and certainly not a permanent fix. Just send the link I provide you to your friend and once they click on the link they simply tap”add friend” under your profile picture.

You can send this link to your friend through Facebook, private Twitter, email, or text message. Basically anyway that you communicate with your friend.
