The Fitbit App doesn't check phone type against its limited compatible phone list.[ Only 25 Apple, 58 Android and 38 Windows 10 phones are compatible, and mostly not the latest ones]

 

If the App recorded the phone type at the last sync, and any sync errors, the App could know if it was compatible, and working [at least for syncing normally], and be intelligent enough to not load a wrong non working App version, or prompt a back out to the previous version automatically if an error was detected.

 

In addition Fitbit would have the usage statistics of the thousands of different phones in use and know which combinations were working well, or not.  Also it would be easier to know which phones are in the majority and need to be fully compatible.

 

It would make it easier for customer support as they would know the phone type in use if there was a new case..

 

This would avoid the breaking of the working phone - watch combinations at each new release of App or Tracker Firmware.

 

And at least make available on the Fitbit site an App and Firmware archive, to enable users to go back to a previous version manually, if necessary.
