Fitbit App displaying off step totals

Is anyone else showing ridiculously off step totals when first entering app and syncing? For the last 3 days I have been showing 13k-20k before even hitting  daily goal. My current step count on my Zip is 4612 and the tracker is showing 28211. I am using a Zip with a Samusng S9+ and app version 2.85 updated 1/19.

Hi @LanuzaFitbit

So weird! The Mobile Track was downloaded to my app! I have never seen it before (not that I look at that screen much). I did just set up this device about a month ago when my old one stopped working, maybe it downloaded then.  The strange thing about all of this is that when I first pick up my phone in the morning the steps would be crazy (I leave it in another room) so not sure how this would be adding steps, unless it was carry over from the previous night.

I unpaired Mobile Track from my app, lets see if this clears up the crazy screen.

Welcome to the Forums @Jme_undrgrnd.

I'd like to take a closer look at what is going on.

The first thing I'd like to do is to ask some questions:

  • Are you referring to the steps listed on the app are higher than the ones on your Fitbit?
  • How often are you syncing your Fitbit?
  • Do you have any other device?
  • Do you have the option to track steps via the Phone enabled?

Look forward to your reply.

Hi @LanuzaFitbit!

I will respond in the order that you ased.

1.Yes - it is almost as if the app is adding my current day steps to the previous day and list them as my current step count.

2. I am syncing several times a day, more so later in the day.

3. My BF has a zip also, but he is not having this experience.

4. Not sure what you are asking, are you asking if I have an app on my phone that can also track my steps if I have my phone with me?

Hello @Jme_undrgrnd.

Thanks for reaching back with those answers.

In regards to my last question, there is a feature on the app that can work as if it was a Fitbit device. It is called MobileTrack. You can click here to read more about it. Could you check if the MobileTrack option is turned on? That could explain why you are getting more steps than what your Fitbit indicates.

Look forward to you reply.
