Fitbit Charge 2 GPS is not accurate after latest Fitbit software update

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Seems to be that Android 7.0 Fitbit App update had made some problems with Charge 2 and GPS.

6.16 km is made two days ago and today after latest update 11.37 km. On fitbit it was showing that gps is well connected and everything is fine but after run  i notice that same distance first km was little bit bigger than day before.

Google maps km scale.

Is there any chance that Sony Z5 Compact + Fitbit Charge 2 with gps support is not best way to track road?

Hello @urmoluts, good to see you are visiting the Fitbit Community! I've seen on your screenshots the first route map has more laps than the second one. How long it was the first exercise? Did you do additional laps on the exercise depicted on your  first screenshot?

Due to the amount of laps you have, is the reason that the distance is different from one session.

Keep in mind a weak GPS signal can be caused by environmental factors such as tall buildings, dense forest, steep hills, or even thick cloud cover. All of these factors can interrupt the connection between your tracker and GPS satellites.

Regardless of the issue you have mentioned I recommend turning off Wi-Fi when you're using connected GPS to improve the experience.

Let me know the additional details to have a closer look. See you soon!

Hi there @urmoluts, thank you for getting back to me. Indeed, I was looking the kilometers for each exercise and from my perspective it seems to be accurate, unless I'm missing something.

As I can see on your first screenshot of 11.37 km, the exercise is divided in 11 split laps plus the final distance, while the second one has less with only 6, plus the final distance; giving you 6.16 km. Every one of these splits count for 1 km each. The reason of the difference in distance, is due to the amount of split from the first exercise has, due there is more concentration of repeated laps in the first map between Männiku Tee and Künka. This is the reason I was asking before if have you actually run those repeated laps? Or both exercise where of the same length and if the are, which one should be the correct distance.

We can say the reason of the distance is higher in the fist screenshot is due to the length of the same.

I recommend to log in to your online Dashboard and look your exercise in the exercise log section, here you can see more specific details of your run and if you still feel is not correct, please share with me more screenshots of the splits of each exercise plus the total time of each of your runs.

I'll be looking forward to your response. Catch ya later!

I'd like to follow this post also.  I have a Charge 2 with a Galaxy S7 phone.  The GPS tracked my walks and bike rides perfectly until a few weeks ago.  Now it is tracking sporadically.  Trying to see if there is something I can change that will have my GPS tracking working correctly again.  It is frustrating to know my bike ride last night was in the 4-5 mile range with probably 10 mph average, but my Fitbit is showing .87 miles and 1.5 average mph

I add yesterday run.

Maybe my english is bad but from first post i try to make clear that fitbit charge 2 had problem with first two km. Yes, first and second run overall lenght is different but this is not my problem. i can run 6 or 11 km.

Look first two kilometers on 3 screenshots. Can you now understand where is first km end and where it is on another run? @RobertoME if my english is bad then i understand but if you see pictures, then you should undestand what i want to say?

Welcome aboard to the Fitbit Community @bweaver56.

Hi there @urmoluts thank you for your explanation. I own you a big apology since my intention was not to make you feel frustrated  or like your English is bad; it was nothing like that.

In the first interaction I haven't clear you were referring to the initial mile splits. Keep in mind I don't have access to other information beyond of what you are providing me. Now with your last explanation I can see you are referring to the inaccurate distance from your starting point until it marked the second split. Once again my apologies for not understanding your point.

There are a few reports where connected GPS distance is not accurate. Most of the times is related to walk or hike and in a few occasions it might happen with run too.

This also might be helpful to you @bweaver56; a weak GPS signal may cause your route and other activity data to be inaccurate:

  1. Make sure your phone can track your activity when you're out of Wi-Fi range. This is usually achieved by making sure Cellular Data is turned on.
  2. Make sure GPS can continue tracking while your phone is locked.
  3. Make sure your phone can identify your location. This is usually achieved by enabling Location Services within your privacy settings.

@urmoluts I saw you mentioned you have a Sony Z5, please correct me if I'm wrong. But, I'm mentioning this since I have a Sony Xperia too and sometimes the GPS signal might get weaker, causing inaccurate data.

Keep me posted, I'll be here if you need more help.
