Fitbit app changing my step count

I'm doing a lot of long walks while training for an event. Yesterday my Fit bit told me I'd walked 55 000 steps (8 hours walking) but after I synced it, it showed as only about 34 000. I have a charge 2 and my phone is a 2017 Galaxy A3 using Android 7.0. Any ideas?

Hello @kiwikidsouth, nice to see you have joined to the Fitbit Community! I was reading your post that your steps count is being changed after you sync. However I'm wondering where are you seeing the information is changing, is it in your Fitbit tracker or the Fitbit app Dashboard?

Also let me know if you are using any special feature in your tracker, like connected GPS or MobileRun? The way the exercise is being tracked can give me a closer look of the issue you are experiencing.

Let me know these details to find a solution to this issue you are experiencing.

Hi

Thanks for your reply.  My tracker seems to track my steps faithfully and when I initially sync it with my app (on my phone), it shows all the steps.  Then the next time I sync my fitbit, it changes the steps immediately.  I do use Strava to map my walks and share with other friends so perhaps it is that?  On my most recent walk I used only Strava and didn't start my fitbit (but it did track steps etc.) and the step count still changed.  I have attached some photos and screenshots.

Hello @kiwikidsouth, my apologies for my absence since our last interaction. Thank you for the screenshot and photo of your tracker, definitively this allowed me a closer look to the issue.

Indeed, certainly this is the first time I saw a behavior like this. I'm wondering if this issue still persisting on a daily basis? There has been releases of new versions of the Fitbit app that it might improve the stability of the Fitbit app. I'm sure you have these version already so that's why I'm curious.

Also I do not believe your Strava integration is affecting your steps or causing this issue. So if the issue persists, I recommend to do restart on your tracker. For more details please use this post as a reference: How to restart your Charge 2?

Once you have perform a restart, proceed to set up your tracker again to your account. There is no need to remove your tracker. This post will indicate the steps you need to follow for Android: How to activate a replacement unit?

Hope this helps and keep me posted if the issue persists.
