Fitbit app crashes during run

I just got my fitbit flex for Christmas and all is working fine apart from when I take it out on runs and use the exercise tracking feature. Out of the 4 runs I have been on it has crashed twice halfway through and only measured half of my distance but all of my time - so my pace looks terrible! When it crashes like this I get an error message saying "fitbit is not responding" and when I try to pause the timer it won't let me let me press the screen - I have to restart my phone.

 

Is this a common issue with the app or is there anything I can do to minimise this?

Sorry this is not a response, I had a similar issue.  Third day with Fitbit Blaze and Note 5. From the exercise screen on Blaze I manually started my hour walk. Did not check until walk was complete.

Error message flashed so fast I could not really see but something like failure to connect to Fitbit. Did not detect that I was walking. Only recorded first 8.21 minutes. Does not look as though there is a way to adjust the distance to calculate actual pace, steps etc.. What happened to the whole autodetect activity thing?
