Same here. Turned off as suggested and the number 1 immediately went away.

As soon as I turned off the Keep Alive, the number 1 disappeared.  Just a heads up in Fitbit is trying to resolve the issue.

I have a red dot with a 4 in it. No clue what  that means. Why is this so cryptic? I have no notifications.

When you open the app at the top of the screen you will see your fitbit
device. Tap on it to open. At the bottom of the screen you will see
"Keep-Alive Widget". Turn that off. This should resolve your issue.

That changes the number to 3. Don't I need "always on"?

No, it doesn't need to be always on. If the number changed and still shows
then there must be some unread notifications. Did you check the
"notifications" section. There are sometimes messages in the app. You can
also download the app to your computer and see if there are unread messages
on it.

Months later,  STILL a problem.   What's going on with this company?

This is a good answer! Nobody is c listening to it! Clearing my notifications bar solved this issue for me. Thank you!

It is annoying that the red dot makes you think there is something in the app to look at (like all other apps!), when in fact it's telling you that your notifications bar has a message for you that you haven't seen.  Clearing all my notifications bar stuff does remove the red dot.
