Fitbit app keeps on crashing

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Every day when I open the Fitbit App on my phone it immediately closes. I have to go to App Management, uninstall the Fitbit App then reinstall from Google Playstore and go through the tedious procedure of allowing everything. Many have complained about this. When is Google going to solve this software problem?

Hello there, @BKKfarang. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. Thanks for trying to troubleshoot the issue with your Fitbit app before reaching out.

I'd recommend to clear the cache of the app: log out from your Fitbit app and go to your phone settings. Access to the App manager option and look for the Fitbit app in your downloaded apps list. Once you are there, clear the app cache and data and proceed to "Force Stop" the app (This may vary depending of the Android device and the OS version). Finish the workaround by restarting your phone. When your phone has initialized, go back to your app and try again.

If the issue continue and the app keeps crashing, make sure you have Wi-Fi or mobile Data always On when you are using the Fitbit app. Sometimes the app will crash while loading information that requires an internet connection.

I've moved your post to the Android App board for organization purposes.

My Fitbit app keeps crashing upon open, but once I remove Location permission, then it is working fine.

Interesting @chanke1992 I understand that the app will open without location permission. The app for most will even sync while running in the background. However a forced sync when first opening will fail without location enabled. You should also be receiving a warning to enable location.

  • Do you get this warning?
  • What happens if you enable location after the app is open?
  • Have you removed the Fitbit app from your phone, and re-installed?

Thanks

I did all that and again this morning I had to uninstall and go through all the permissions again. It is the only App that does this - I am so glad that all other Apps work properly and don't have to be reinstalled every day.

@Rich_Laue Thanks for your input. @chanke1992 Thanks for the explanation, I am curious if the app keeps on crashing on you. Thanks in advance.

@BKKfarang Thanks for your reply. That is definitely not normal. Does it crash every time you open it? What will be shown to you before it closes down? I checked the last two weeks and this is the only report about the app crashing. We shall see if other users experience the same thing. Thanks in advance!

This happens most days, but not all. It happened today. I tap on the App on
my phone, it flashes on then goes off, I try several times but it won't
stay open. I then uninstall it and go through the whole re-install
procedure again granting the necessary approvals to location, contact etc.
The App will then work all day, but next day same again.

I am using an OPPO Reno 8 pro 5+ phone
