Fitbit step count suddenly changed for whole year

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I've just gone into the app, and it has suddenly added an average of roughly  1000 steps per day for the whole of 2024. I know my step counts - I know that I averaged about 16,300 for the first four months of the year, and I've been averaging just over 17000 steps a month since May. I know that last month, I averaged around 16800, because I was really mad that I'd dipped under 17,000.

All of a sudden, the last four months are well over 18,000, and the first four are over 17,000. When you look at the months / days individually they look right, but it's just recalculated somehow and added loads on. It's so annoying as it was so motivating trying to aim for my average to get over 17,000 by the end of the year, and now I have no idea what it really is.

Has anyone else had it suddenly massively recalculate? There is no 'dashboard' to check against now, so is there any chance it can even be fixed? Any ideas of how it can change an entire year's worth of data overnight would be appreciated. The only change I made today was changing my weight recorded in the app.

these two screenshots are of the same date - one was taken on 17th April 2024, showing the data from 16th, which at the time says 29,602. Now when I look back at 16th april 2024 it says 30,807. This kind of change has happend for EVERY DAY for the entire year.

Almost all my recent historical Activity Heart Rate Zone info is showing as 100% Below Zones.

The Exercise Quest Fitness Dashboard at https://dashboard.exercise.quest states 'Exercise data is currently unavailable for some users due to a problem in the Fitbit API. We've reported the issue to Fitbit developer relations and are waiting for a response.'

Something is screwy on Fitbit's end. Nice of them to post (not) to advise us of this little issue.

There's definitely something going on. Last night when I checked it had gone back to normal, and now it's back to the dodgy numbers again... (Screenshots below)

I tried contacting customer services the other day and all they said was "maybe you have it placed wrong on your wrist", as if that could rewrite a year's worth of data?!

My average steps per day from last year (2023) dropped over 200 steps sometime in this past week. Something widespread must have happened. I know it changed because I started this year slow and have lately been pushing hard to beat last year’s average, so I’ve been looking at it daily. Now I don’t know whether to trust this year’s average.

Same thing here! The app just removed hundreds of thousands of steps logged in my history. I thought I was taking crazy pills until coming across this thread just now.

Hopefully they can fix this - because it's kind of a bummer looking back at, say, a day I KNOW I did 45,000+ steps (and have the timestamped badge award to prove it) and now it says 37,000.

Something is afoot - and it ain't accurate step counting.

Fitbit - any insight here if/when this will be fixed?

Did this ever get resolved? This just happened to me and I made a new thread - then I stumbled across this one..

Update: numbers have completely changed again. Now they've flipped entirely and gone to significantly lower than my actual steps! Feels like every time I look at Fitbit, my stats for the last year have changed. Honestly feel like a refund should be due if an activity tracker can't keep an accurate record of your steps...

Same here. My historical data is completely out of wack - and my current data seems to go all over the place.

Suddenly losing 500 steps out of nowhere all the time, when syncing my Pixel watch to the app.

It's pretty wild that this hasn't been fixed yet. And I'm hoping that they can restore historical data - it's such a bummer to look back on my biggest day ever (45k steps) and now it reads 37k. Sigh.

Thanks for the update! My watch & Fitbit app seem to be syncing correctly now - Pixel Watch v1 and Pixel 7 Pro, for anyone else in the thread.

But, the historical data is still all busted. Any insight into if / when that may be fixed? Or, is the data just gone now?

Thanks again!

Hi,

My historical data is still broken.

I am running the latest version of Fitbit according to Play Store (from 19 Sept 2024).

When can we expect historical data to be fixed?

Hello @Bubbasticky , @tobydk , @CourtneyTwist

There is a known issue on the Fitbit side that affects our ability to see historical data. This affect users of multiple Fitbit devices, including the Pixel watch.

I've seen recent Moderator posts acknowledging the issue and that the team is working on fixing the problems. They also mentioned that an app update will be rolling out in the next few days. Keep checking the Play Store for the app update and install it when it's available.

I'll check back when I see confirmation that the update has started rolling out to see if it fixed the problem you're experiencing.

I'm afraid that even with the latest update, it hasn't been fixed. Going back the last year, I'm still missing between 500- 1000 steps per day, for the entire year. That's a whole lot of missing data.
