Fitbit suddenly added 25,000 steps

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I have a fitbit versa and my Fitbit phone app updated to the latest version today. As soon as the update was done, 25,000 steps were suddenly added to my steps for the day. I was sitting still at the time and I haven't been moving around much today.

Hi @Bee12345, welcome to the Community Forums!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, seems odd that your device suddenly added 25k steps. To better assist you and further investigate, can you please let me know if the issue occurred once or you experienced it a few times in the past? The steps were tracked by your device (meaning that you were able to see them in the watch) or after you synced your stats with your account? In the meantime I receive your answers, please restart your Fitbit, delete the steps that were erroneously added in your account and troubleshoot the Fitbit app with the following steps:

  1. Force quit the Fitbit app.
  2. Uninstall the app from your mobile device.
  3. Make sure that the operating system version of your phone is up to date.
  4. Reboot your mobile device.
  5. Reinstall the Fitbit app.
  6. Login using your account credentials.

Looking forward to your reply, let me know if you have any additional questions.

Hi. I had the same problem -- woke up and my fitbit app was showing 25000+ steps. It's shown this momentarily a few times in the last few weeks, but it's always corrected very quickly. Not today though. I took all the measures you recommended and I'm still showing more than 28k. The real number is probably closer to a thousand. Any way to manually adjust it down?

You're welcome @modernart, your reply is also appreciated.

Thanks for the details that were shared with me. To further investigate this uncommon situation, can you please let me know if you experience it just once? Only the step count was affected or other stats too? Were you able to delete the steps with the instructions of the help article of my previous post?

Looking forward to your reply.

I also am having this problem with my versa 2 and Samsung galaxy note 9. I have deleted the app, reinstalled with all appropriate updates, factory reset my watch, and still waking up most days with 13k to 25k steps. Any advice??

This is also happening to me! I woke up this morning to 13000 steps taken, 9.4km between 6 and 6:45 am! I wasn't even up at that time. It's happened to me one other Saturday morning with a similar count. I was wearing my fitbit both times and my Samsung 9 was not charging??

@RicardoFitbit this happened to me today as well! I was laying down napping and suddenly got the notification that I hit my 10k step goal for the day. Went and checked my steps and 25k steps were added sometime between 0900-1000! Absolutely no idea why, as I was laying down and not even moving when it occurred. Using a Versa 2 & my phone is a pixel 4a5G. Any insight would be appreciated!
