Fitbit tracked 48,000 steps while I was sleeping

I woke up this morning and my fitbit congratulated me on having 48,000 steps. The app showed that I got 48,000 steps at 2 am while I was sleeping peacefully.

There is no way to change this.

I contacted Customer service and got a canned response about shopping carts and which arm you use for the device. Not only no help, but disrespectful in that the person obviously barely read my concern.

All I can say is, that was some sleepwalking! I must have had a jetpack on.

@KathrynK Thank you for getting back.

In order to reflect the correct amount of steps tracked that day, it's recommended to log "Driving" because this will override the steps that you had during the night.

Thank you for your understanding.

@KathrynK Hi there. Thank you for the details shared.

I see where your disappointment is coming from. Your feedback is appreciated, we're always working to provide you with a good customer service. Please restart your Fitbit and manually log driving as an activity in your account, this will override the steps and floors tracked.

Hope this helps.

You realize I was asleep when this happened; not driving. And my sleep log
did not reflect this so called activity. If it had been less, I thought it
might be a seizure, but that would be much less steps and would show up on
my sleep log as disturbed sleep.

I was woken up at 2:30 this morning when my inspire hr congratulated me on achieving 22,000 steps! I had been sleeping since 11:45. I am glad there is a "fix", but it's really not a fix, is it? A fix would imply that this issue is resolved and won't happen again. This is more like a repair, meaning it won't last and it will happen again. What is FitBit doing to resolve this issue, to really fix it?

@Pender1965 Welcome to the Fitbit Community. Thanks for the details mentioned.

I see where your disappointment is coming from. It's definitely odd what you experienced, may I know if you have MobileTrack paired to your account? This is a feature that records basic stats such as steps using your phone's sensors if you don't have a Fitbit device available.  If there was a fan or anything buzzing nearby, or if your phone was vibrating, that might have caused you to get incorrect steps during that time.

If that's the case, unpair MobileTrack from your account:

  1. Open the Fitbit app and tap your profile picture.
  2. Tap MobileTrack:
  3. Tap the trash icon at the upper right corner
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to remove it from your account

Hope this helps.

This has happened to me twice. First time I figured it was a glitch , and rolled with it. It just happened again I woke up with 15k + steps , the AP said it they were take an 6:30 in the morning.

I have noticed both times I've had a very low battery, but I'm not sure how that would affect this.

I'd like to know if MobileTrack is paired to your account, if it's, this could be the reason why you're getting steps tracked in the morning. If there was a fan or anything buzzing nearby, or if your phone was vibrating, that might have caused you to get incorrect steps during that time.

Follow the steps mentioned above to unpair MobileTrack from your account, as it's recommended to use it, if you don't have a Fitbit device.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

Per your recommendation I removed the mobile track. As you said it could be
caused by buzzing or my phone going off. I was in a hotel room, the only
sound was someone knocking on the door next to my room.

Hopefully removing the track will help. If this does happen again I'll
be sure to let you know.
