Welcome to our Community @helpmewithfitbi! Thanks for stopping by! I'd like to know if you're seeing your steps are at 0 on your Dashboard or in your tracker's display? I guess you have a Zip since you need to take out the battery to do the restart. Why don't you make sure there is proper contact between the battery and the battery contacts inside your Zip tracker. You can do this by opening the battery door of your Zip, removing your battery, and ensuring that the silver battery tab located in the lower right half of your tracker is flush with the white box outline in the tracker housing. The process can be followed here. After this please try syncing your tracker with your Dashboard.
