Food Log Macro percentages are wrong

Hi, I’ve been using the versa and the Fitbit app for some months now, and I find the food logging feature a little weird. Though it seems to work for calories, macro distribution is shown in percentage but I really doubt it’s accurate to the real amount of macros eaten, I’ve read somewhere else that this is the distribution of the calorie that this macro brought in your diet. So it tells you where your calories came from rather than how much you ate from one or other macro. I’d really need to now the real distribution of macros eaten (the weight percentage eaten of that macro) rather than the percentage of energy obtained from that macro.

Welcome to the Forums @Ipokampo.

Thanks for bringing this up.

I'd like to take a closer look at what you mentioned. Could you point me to where you read that it was related to the calories and not the macros themselves? Additionally, could you let me know where you original doubt came from? Did you notice any of the macros being off?

As mentioned in this article, they should reflect the accurate numbers and they are not viewed through the calories perspective.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Ok Lanuza, let’s do the simple math. For this exercise we’ll take avocado as an example. The macros for 100gr are:

- 29,47gr fat

- 17,5gr carb

- 4,02gr prot

lets say I log just 100gr of avocado for the day, one could say that my macros for the day would be something like 58%fat (29,47/50,99), 34%carb (17,5/50,99), 8% (4,02/50.99) prot, but the Fitbit app it’s showing these other macro distribution: 75% fat, 20% carb, 5% prot.

It seems by this distribution that the app it’s calculating the percentage distribution of where the calorie came from:

Lets sum all the calories, 29,47 x 9cal + 17,5 x 4cal + 4,02 x 4cal = 351cal.

Now, 29,47x9/351 = 75%, 17,5x4/351 = 20%, 4,02x4/352 = 5%

So I don’t know if this is intended behavior or not, but for me is rather useless to know where my calories came from in percentage, I want to know my macros, in grams or by percentage of the total intake not by how much calories came from what, I’ve never seen that before honestly.

i hope this changes some day thanks

So what app did you start using to track macros?

did you ever get an answer to this problem? I came across your post when I thought my macros looked funny too. Specifically, I looked at a serving of shrimp I had for dinner. It listed carbs as 22g! Should be more like <2. Can we add our own macros, how? I might as well write out everything by hand if there are more mistakes like this and we can’t add/edit.

I'm running into the same problem, even WITH adding my own macros. I have some custom recipes that I put the macros in for and for whatever reason the app is throwing out complete garbage. It is saying that 22g + 4.66+ 1= 40g of carbs... it should read 27.66g carbs. I used to just go off of calories with the fitbit app and loved it for that. But now that I am focusing more on macros, it's a waste of time honestly.

yeah I am also having the same problem.... is there no solution?

Well, unfortunately I never found one and gave up calculating with the app. Let me know of you have better luck 🙂 - Allison

It's May 2021 and I am having problems with macros on the app, too. I create foods by weight, log the food at whatever weight I'm consuming...and the macros are insane! 2200g of carbs for 43g of avocado, just as an example.

Frustrated - I've been talking to support. No help yet... Anyone have am answer yet??
