Google Pixel watch & swim tracking

Hello I hope I can. Get an answer here.  Currently I have a Fitbit sense and I do a lot of swimming. It will track and log my swimming including the calories burned.  I understand that the pixel watch will not track swim strokes.  What exactly does that mean.

Can I manually select swim from the watch.

Can I log a swim afterwards in the Fitbit app.

Or is swimming and the tracking of calories and lengths in the Google pixel watch completely missing.

It's very vague and doesn't seem to be much information over what I can do with my Fitbit sense now. And if I was to buy a pixel watch what I can do then what is the difference exactly?

@DJDJTO Welcome to the forums. Thanks for your interest in the Google Pixel watch and its functions, such as swim tracking.

Let me answer your questions. What does it mean that the Pixel watch will not track strokes? It means it will not be able to detect which swimming style you were performing. Which strokes can I use to swim with my Fitbit device?

You can definitely log a swim afterwards over the Fitbit app. However, the information of that exercise log will be approximate to a regular swimming session. The Google Pixel will automatically detect swimming. You can also select swim from the watch directly, but it will only log the duration. On the other hand you can just start swimming and the device will log the swim lengths, duration, distance, and pace. This I found in the following article: How do I track swims with my Fitbit device?. Then sync the device and wait for the training to show up on the app with the aforementioned information.

Thank you for the answer.  I am still.not clear.  I thought the Google pixel watch did not have that did not have automatic exercise detection.  What you are describing is saying it does you said I just start swimming it will detect swimming and it'll end up in the app.

You also are saying that there is no way to go into the water. Tap on the watch that you are going to do a swim and for it to log that in the app afterwards including the laps the calories burned.

I don't quite understand what is the difference between the Fitbit sense and the Google pixel watch as far as automatic exercise detection and swimming exercise logging.

After looking at the help links you referenced the pixel watch does indeed track swimming.  Although some differences it does it automatically

The narrative out there, including a lot of online reviews is that the pixel watch does not track swimming at all and is not even waterproof.

From your help documents.that's not true.

Anyways, thank you for your help and information

the watch does have Swim settings in the exercise app so you can select it directly.

@jst1986 Thanks for your input. I appreciate you taking the time to confirm. I must have misinterpreted the table of comparison. Since it does says it will be recorded automatically. However, the third point of comparison does confirm it can be recorded with the exercise app, but the duration only.

@DJDJTO Thanks for the reply. I must apologize. I had the wrong idea of how this feature worked. Guess I missed the third column of comparison last time. Thanks to @jst1986 we can confirm that it is possible to select "swim" directly on the device. However, as the table outlines, you will only receive the duration of the exercise. I can confirm you can use your Google Pixel for swimming.

I appreciate you both for contributing to this thread and help us reach a definitive conclusion. One can start a swimming activity directly on the Google Pixel Watch. Thanks again.
