Just downloaded the fit bit app for my new fit bit flex - it's saying I already have a fit bit account but I have never had one before.

This suggests that your email is in use by another fitbit user. If this is the case then I would have expected to have been getting emails to that account from fitbit. 

 

I would try using the password reset option where you login. If you get that email then you can change the email and carry on. If you don't get that email then I think you would do best to contact customer support to see if they can work out what's going on.
