I wonder if it's related to the ongoing issue with high background data usage documented here:
https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Android-App/High-Cellular-Data-Usage-In-The-Background/td-p/2808875
It might be worth keeping an eye on that to judge when it's safe to reinstall the app.

Same here, along with high data usage...
The app uses between 10 and 15% of my battery!
I deactivated the "continous sync" and the "keep-alive widget".
"Always connected" option is on.
Phone : OnePlus 3, running Android 8.0.0 and FitBit app version 2.73.

Mine used 16% yesterday, also on Oneplus 3 running 2.73.
I've also disabled Always Connected and Keep-Alive Widget.
Never noticed such a high battery drain before.

I just noticed the same high battery drain myself. I'm not sure exactly when it started, but it's only been a few days. The Fitbit app drained my phone's battery from 100% to 50% while I slept last night!
This is completely unacceptable!

Can someone else try turning off NFC and seeing if that helps?
I turned mine off after weeks of grief and today I've only got 1% drain with all of the settings turned on.
Cheers,
J
