i used to get my hourly steps when I used the app on my computer, but since I got the android app on my phone it shows up that day but it doesn't show any past days as to whether I made my goal or not. I tried syncing before bed and again in the morning.

Hello there @katjane, nice to have new faces in the Fitbit Community! Rest assure this is not a glitch or malfunction from the app, as this behavior is intended.
The computer app will display more in depth data, while the mobile app is designed to show you previous data only for the mains stats (Steps, Calories, Floors, Distance and Active Minutes). For secondary tiles, like the Hourly step goal; it is require to access individually to have historical data.
Hope this helps and let me know if you have other questions.

when I log out and log back in, the historical information on hourly steps shows up. Kind of ridiculous that I cannot remain logged in.

Incorrect. On the Android App, tap the upper right icon with the watch band. Not your account icon. You see the type of fitbit you have, last sync'd and software version. Underneath the "General" section tap on "Customize Stats." The last option is "Hourly Activity". Make sure it is selected. Then from the main dashboard, tap on steps per hour icon. You can then scroll through and see your steps per hour for all past weeks.
Note that sometimes the entire week appears with 0 steps for each hour. It seems to be a glitch. On the day of the steps I sync and see 7 of 9 hours met the goal but the following day it says 0 of 9. All of last week just magically fixed itself while I was searching for a solution and found your question.
