Inconsistent step data

I have had some issues recently with the data displayed in the app being internally inconsistent, such as heart rate averages being higher than heart rate maximum for the same exercise. But this latest one I've managed to capture on screenshot. After syncing my Pixel watch to my app, the step count screen is showing two contradictory totals for today (top of the screen Vs the list of daily totals) - they can't both be right! Can someone explain why situations like this occur? If makes it hard to trust the data.

Thanks for reaching out about the step data shown on the Fitbit app. Please make sure that your Fitbit app is up to date. I just checked and the correct piece of information is the one shown on the list next to "Today". The one shown on the bar diagram is apparently taking longer to update. However, the most recent step count will be shown on the list. Thanks for letting us know. We shall see if other users experience the same situation.
