Ionic setup

I downloaded the Fitbit app from the Google Play store, started the setup procedure, but the Ionic failed to connect to my wireless.  Then it moved on to try the firmware update, but in spite of the Ionic and phone being located only inches apart, the Bluetooth connection dropped as well, and then the app got "stuck".  I killed the app, restarted the process after I verified my Fitbit account via the e-mail link, then the Ionic connected to my wireless, downloaded and installed the firmware update, and appears to be working (hard to be sure since this device is completely new to me).

So someone in the programming team has some work to do on the app error handling, it's not good.

Hi @VMMage and welcome to the forums!

What phone and OS version are you using?  You say it appears to be working so does that mean there is a visible clock and stats displayed?

Could you reply back so we can assist further if need be.

My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S4, Android 5.  Yes, the Ionic took the firmware update and now displays the clock, steps, heart rate, etc, so it appears to have done the job properly the second time around.  I just switched to the Ionic from a Garmin Vivofit 3 (which I've used for a little over 2 years now, it's a good device that hasn't given me any trouble).  The Ionic has some neat features, and I could "buy it" with points from my health program, so I decided to give it a try.  Hopefully it will be OK over the long run, but it left a lousy first impression.

(Edit: Fixed the name of my Garmin device - Vivofit, not Versafit)

Yes that definitely sounds like it has now updated to the newest firmware.  Just to double check if you can wake your Ionic, swipe left until you see the settings icon, click it, scroll down and touch 'about' what version does it then show? Should be 27.68.9.15 if it the latest firmware.

Also the fact that you are on Android 5.0 will now prevent you from being able to update the Fitbit app as it requires now at least Android 7.0 to get the latest version.  This might impact on any functionality with the tracker.

The firmware is 27.33.1.30 -- maybe it will decide to get another firmware upgrade later, maybe not.  If Fitbit decides not to support me because I have an older phone, maybe I'll be OK with the level of support I get with the version of the app that I have now, which appears to be 3.4.1.  If it all doesn't work out, I can always go back to my Garmin device.
