Hi,
I would like /need to make a new Fitbit account My current account is managed by a third party for research purposes. Now that I have completed my participation in the program want to retain my fitbit data, but make a new account that is entirely in my control. I do not have access to the associated account emails etc to export/import the current data because of the third party study oversight.
The instructions given were essentially to remove device from app, log out make new account. But that doesn't cover if the data will be retained.
If anyone can offer assistance it is much appreciated.

Hi @Studyparty sorry, but no. Once you get a new email address and account, the old information wouldn't be accessible. You'd need to talk to the people in the study to see if they would be able to grab that data for you.

@Odyssey13 Thanks for your help!
@Studyparty Welcome to the forums. Thanks for reaching out about the data on your Fitbit account. Currently there is no way to transfer data between accounts. The only thing I can think of is to try and copy the data and manually log it on the new account. However, some information cannot be copied, such as heart rate or active zone minutes. Thanks for your understanding.

Hello @Studyparty and welcome to the Community. All of us who answered only know of one type of Fitbit account, an individual account with the user's personal email and password. None of us have experience with an account with third party oversight. I did an internet search and can't even find a description of this type of account. Can you give any more details about how this account was set up? What email do you use to sign in, your personal email or one given to you? If you used a different email, can you change it to your personal email in the mobile app? You do this by tapping on your profile avatar > Account Settings > Change email. If you used your personal email, then it is a little more complicated than they explained. If you do what they wrote, then you will get an error that your email is already in use.
Out of interest, did the study protocol include a statement that all of the data was property of the research group? If so, then you might not have any recourse to retain your data.
