Not quite sure but I just joined, using android, I have no other device. Before even using the app, it says I have roughly 2000 calories every day for my entire future so not sure why that is?

It started off like that, surely your steps should build up the calories no?

I would screenshot for you but I cannot attach a file to this it would seem.

Thanks for any clarity!

Burned calories - your BMR (base metabolism rate) comes from the information you provided (gender, age, height, weight) and it accumulates just from breathing. Steps begin at 0 at midnight and get reset in 24 hours. See if this article - click to go there - helps with some of your questions. Let us know.

Hi @Oksman burned calories begin at midnight, as do our steps. It's normal to get a new device, set it up and find burned calories, but it doesn't affect your stats. It takes some time for your device to learn your steps and activity level. You using Mobile Track or a Fitbit?

No just the mobile, shouldn't it start with 0 steps and 0 calories? Now it says 1900 each day into the future like I've already reached my goals ahead of time.

Ah alright so I cannot disable this? I want to track calories burned by walking not my BMR as it's irrelevant to my program. I eat 2000 calories per day and cardio helps me reduce the effective calories in.

If I link this to Myfitnesspal I imagine it'll say way more than actual calories lost through walking?

Thanks for the response, it answers the why for sure!

@Oksman  I've asked a Fitbit Moderator to stop by to assist you. Pretty sure you can't disable it.

@Odyssey13 Thanks for your help and the explanation.

@Oksman Welcome to the forums. Thanks for your inquiry regarding the calorie count on the Fitbit app.

As it was explained by Odyssey13 the BMR is taken into account, so that explains the amount of burnt calories shown on the app. Please note that  calorie tracking is always active, it cannot be disabled.

I just confirmed the information that goes from Fitbit to MyFitnessPal and this is what is sent:

  • Steps
  • Calories
  • Scale measurements

In this case, the total amount of calories at the end of the day will be synced to MyFitnessPal.

Have a nice day!
