Lifting weights not counting as active minutes

I believe this problem started Monday 8/22. It's always been correct before this. But maybe the 8/18 update broke this too?

Logging "lifting weights" is not adding to my active minute total unless I crank up the "precise intensity" all the way to the right. I don't think this has always been the case..I'd like to think I would have noticed this in the past nine months of obsessing over fitbit numbers.

@curtmcgirt Earning active minutes is dependent on the intensity level of your activity so it sounds like it is accurately adjusting when you increase the intensity. I recommend taking a moment to check out the section titled "How do I earn active minutes" in this help article. Hope that helps to clarify things!

right. my point is that prior to last weekend, i'm pretty sure 20 minutes of 'weights' would count as 20 active minutes even if i just left it at the default "estimated" intensity. so i suspect something has changed.

Do you always log that activity @curtmcgirt? I agree with @ErickFitbit, by default, you are given a starting goal of 30 active minutes a day based on the CDC recommendation of 20-30 minutes of daily moderate-to-intense activity. You can always change your active minutes goal to meet your personal needs.

The more calories you burn the higher your MET value, so therefore the more calories you burn the higher your total active minutes. Assuming you're active for at least 10 minutes at a time, green spikes on your calorie graph typically indicate that you’re earning active minutes.

I was wondering, prior the last week, how did you track that activity?

I have to agree with curtmcgirt, I noticed back in September that my activity minutes were not counting during my lifting sessions.  Just yesterday I lifted for 50 minutes and it gave me 2 minutes of activity.  I think from the sweat I should have had more then that.  At this point I may have to get a different brand of watch which sucks, but my insurance  depens on activity minutes for the month.  I work out 4 to 5 days a week, with a mix of spin bike, running, and lifting.  I lift for sure 4 days a week, and then mix in my cardio.  I'm not going to workout 2 hours a day to make sure my activity minutes are calculated correctly.

I get how you earn them, but there's days that even if I'm lifting hard, my heart rate is not going to reach where it needs to for it to be an "activity".  Very disappointing

Totally agree with you.  I also train 4 days a week in addition to cardio and 4 times a week.  With my charge 3 everything was counted for even the weight lifting days.  Now that I have the versa 3 I just want to throw it out the window. No weight lifting was counted for active minutes and trust me the sweat is there.  It’s driving me nuts and have contacted customer support twice without any help.  Very disappointing!!!!

What devices are you using? I am unfamiliar with the precise/estimated intensity.

I have no issues with my Charge 4, but I manually start a "Workout"" under my exercise apps, and then rename it later, to the correct workout. This is fro my most recent workout:

I’m using the versa 3 and selected the weight training option for exercise when I lift weights. When I do a step class or aerobics or a circuit, I select the workout option

My Charge 4 give Zone minutes versus Active minutes, but they should function similarly. I do know that when I tweaked the standard max heart rate from 160 to 165, that was enough to change my minutes quite a bit, since i spend a lot of time at the edge of the two zones. Any chance you have custom heart rate or heart rate zones set up?

I didn’t customize the HR.  It’s standard at low HR 36 and threshold at 120.🤷🏻‍:female_sign: Should I change that? But also when I take my carotid pulse and look at my Fitbit, it’s easily 15 -20 beats difference

this thread was opened in 2016 for a fitbit flex, which had no heart rate monitoring and no 'active zones.'
