I want to take up swimming regularly, as I used to enjoy it as a kid. I know my Alta is not waterproof and so won't be able to actively track my swim. Manually entering a swim on an Android can be quite long. This got me thinking about ways of speeding this up. I came up with a couple of suggestions, listed below. Do you think they're good ideas and can you suggest any others?

1. Allow swimmers to put an icon on the dashboard to speed up manual entry?

2. Assume the duration of the swim is the time which no movement can be detected by the fitbit?

3. Most of my swimming is in the same pool. Can we define our usual pool so we don't have to keep setting lap length (or choose some other or open sea)?

4. I count the number of laps swam using freestyle, breststroke ect. Can I just enter them in using laps?

Interesting ideas, @Will2Exercise! You are a very motivated “fitbit-er!” Good for you! I have two suggestions:

  1. If you can manage it, buy one more Fitbit device, one that automatically tracks swimming. The Ionic is pricy but it tracks swim and much more. It’s an all-in-one solution! The Flex 2 costs much less. It also tracks swimming automatically. You can always switch between Your current Alta and the Flex 2, tracking what you want, when you want. This Help article describes how to do that.
  2. Or you can post your ideas to the Feature Suggestion Forum. Tap here to see what others have suggested. Vote for their ideas or add your own so others may vote for them.

I've put it in the Feature Suggestion Forum. Hopefully, it will help all us swimmers!
