Maximum heart rate is not 220 minus age

I am 54. Yet my fitbit app shows maximum heart rate as 176—not 166 (220-54).

What could be the reason?

Is it also creating errors in my cardio zone etc as well as in my cardiac fitness?

Thanks a lot.

It's below the "zones".

I had checked custom heart zone and that's why I was getting a customized max HR of 176.

After u checking the boxes, it's gone to 220-54 =166

Thanks, Mr Row!

Much appreciated

Check your birthdate is correct.

I looked to check mine on my Android phone app and can't find max heart rate.  Where did you find it?

But you didn't tell me where you found max heart rate on Android app.

Here's what mine looks like.  I don't see max heart rate anywhere, only the boundaries between fat burn, cardio, and peak.  Does your look different?  If so are on Android or IOS?

I'm glad you got it figured out.  That 'Custom Max Heart Rate' is just meant for people who somehow know their max heart rate to be different than that determined by the default formula.
