Mixed info having Charger 5 and Pixel 2 watch on same account

I just got a Pixel 2 watch with my Pixel 8 pro.  I want to give a smart watch a try, but would like to use my current Charger 5 when swimming and when on long vacations.  I am reading mixed about having both on my account.  Some say that I need to use a special process that needs two phones.  Others say since they are different kind of devices that I can have both easily setup.  What one is correct?

You can't have both on the same account. You need to remove one to set up another.
