MobileTrack says it can not track steps

Lots of people in my family have Fitbits. My dad however does not have one.  So I made an account after I learned about MobileTrack, in hopes that he wouldn't miss out on step challenges. It is the android app. I tried to start a challenge from there and it says that you need to have a device that can track steps. I thought will MobileTrack you could track steps even without a Fitbit. Any advice?

@mhcb1404, according to this post, "As far as Android goes, MobileTrack is currently only available on the Nexus 5X/6P":
