My Fitbit saved my life!

November 13 at around midnight, I woke from sleep not feeling great. I felt anxious, and I thought I was having a panic attack. I went to the restroom and as I was standing in front of the toilet, I could see my hear literally beating out of my chest. I checked my Fitbit and my resting HR read 145 then it jumped to 171, 181, 200, 155, 100, 190....

The Fitbit app alerted that I was in AFib!! I was able to get a ride to the hospital and the staff was able to convert my heart back to a normal sinus rhythm with medication. I am so thankful for the alert, as I wasn't experiencing anything other symptoms other than the elevated HR. With the advanced notice, I was able to get to the hospital ASAP. I will definitely continue using my Fitbit religiously!

@RiekoC thank you so much for the kind words! Yup, I was able to get the help I needed and I cannot stress enough that anyone dealing with untreated obstructive sleep apnea PLEASE get it diagnosed and treated. They found that this was the leading cause of my abnormal heart rhythm. I had out mine off for years and it almost cost me much more than just an overnight stay in the hospital. Thanks again!

Hi @Naterade

Thanks for the recommendation on following up on untreated obstructive sleep apnea. It helps others to know that something like sleep apnea can lead to more serious health problems.

Thank you again for taking the time to share with us all.
