My android app issues

I have a fitbit flex and a Samsung S7 and I'm using the fitbit android app. This combination has worked great for 2 years. Recently, when I use the exercise function on the app to track my daily walks, the app gives me double credit for the steps and miles. I disabled the Samsung Health app (which I had never set up) based on advice from customer service because they said the app might be manually logging my steps. That hasn't helped. Customer service then told me to not to track my walks on the app.  Instead, the recommended that I tap my fitbit to let it know I was starting a walk and then tap at the end to let it know I was done.  They claimed that when I sync my fitbit to the app, it would show the walk--I could even leave my phone at home.  It hasn't worked.  Even if it did, I like getting the map of my walk and the real time information about distance and pace.  Anyone else have this problem?  Any solutions?

Accepted Solutions

I’ve been using my phone to log my walks, leaving my flex behind. It works if I use this sequence: tap flex til it vibrates with 5 lights, take flex off, start app log walk function, walk, tap flex—then end app walk function. If you mess up this order it doesn’t work.  I’ve compared the step count with my pedometer and the Fitbit app misses about 20% of the steps my pedometer registers. So it’s not double counting. I guess I’ll log walks this way now. But it’s not optimal.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the Forums @ladymondagreem.

I definitely understand where you are coming from.

Perhaps you could try the inverse, whenever you go for a walk do not take your tracker with you and only take your phone with the Fitbit app. That could also help. I'd say we give it a shot and see how it goes.

Let me know how it goes or if you have any further questions.

Thank you for the suggestion. I actually tried that first (I should have said as much in my post) and it didn't even track my steps, let alone my route.

Hey @ladymondagreem.

Thanks for letting me know you did try that.

What could be happening is that for some reason the walks are being logged twice because they were tracked by  two devices.

My question would be, when our support team mentioned the thing about tapping the tracker, did you feel the tracker vibrate and the all of the lights come on? Or did nothing happen?

Look forward to your reply.

Thanks for your help. First, it went into sleep mode, so I tapped again and it vibrated with all lights. Same at the end of the walk. The app does track my steps after I sync but doesn’t map it. Also, when I use my app to track my walks, wearing the flex and taking my phone, I wasn’t tapping my flex at the beginning and end that’s when it double counts.

I like using the app when I walk because I can get real time info on my pace and distance, which I’m trying to increase. So, I’d prefer a solution that works with the app during the walk.
Thanks again.

Update--yesterday, I tried tapping my flex before and after my walk and I used the app on my phone while I walked. During the walk, I was able to get real-time data on page and mileage. The steps were counted, but the walk did not register under track exercise--so no map or impact data was saved. The walk steps did not count twice.

EDIT-the walk registered on the track exercise much later in the day (after a few syncs) and the steps counted twice.

Hey @ladymondagreem.

Thanks for the update.

Considering that the part that you are more interested in is the map and the information that comes with it, I'd definitely suggest that the best option here is the one that you mentioned. Using the phone only and not the tracker. If you take the phone only, and begin tracking the activity with it, there would be no need for you to take the tracker too. Could you give it another shot and see how it goes?

Look forward to your reply.

when I took the phone only, leaving the flex behind, it was as if I didn't take a walk at all--the steps did not count and the map did not register.  Evan after waiting a day for a delayed sync.
