New Android dashboard is terrible

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Part 1: If I want to review past days' data, the new dashboard displays the correct past data for some of the fields (such as steps), but displays the current data for other fields (such as water or hours active). And apparently that's on *purpose*! FFS, why? If I'm trying to review past data, it's for a reason and I want to see all the past data. If I want to see the current data, I'll look at today. By what insane logic does it make sense to display yesterday's steps, calories, etc yet today's water intake, hours active, sleep, etc?

Part 2: I posted this comment a couple days ago looking for an answer from Fitbit on the logic behind this, and hoping they'd offer a solution. Instead Moderator marked my problem solved, closed the thread, and pasted a form reply that he used on numerous other posts similar to mine that I should "Check out my update about the new Android Dashboard and switching to the old Dashboard here."

The update? Short story: we're stuck with bad software.

In his own words: "Fitbit Update 04/24/2017: Hi everyone -- Beginning with the release of the Android app version 2.48, the new Fitbit app Dashboard with the updated look will be fully implemented. Users will no longer have the option to switch to the old Dashboard design, so I encourage you to check it out if not already using it. We're constantly striving to improve Fitbit products and services and we appreciate all of the feedback we receive from our customers. You can find more information about the app and how to start using it by clicking here."

He says they appreciate feedback, that they're striving to improve the products? Here's some feedback: telling me I can't switch back to the old dashboard doesn't answer why the new dashboard displays only the current data for over half of the data sets when you're reviewing past days. It doesn't explain the logic (illogic?) behind the decision that led to that design flaw. It does not solve the problem.

A real solution: please answer my question, and, preferably, actually solve the software glitch.

Hello @dannidi, I saw you are new around so let me give you a warm welcome to the Fitbit Community.

Thank you for bring this to my attention and I'm sure my friend @ErickFitbit was just explaining the current status with the new design of the Fitbit app. Since with the latest update this change is permanent now and does not allow to switch back to the previous version.

The main intention with the change was to keep focus on the main stats to keep the versatility of the app and to maintain the same format across different mobile platforms. The change has been well received by a large number of users, but we have also received feedback like yours that would like to see the stats change in general accordingly to the date you want to see.

Rest assure your comments are important for us, however any change with the design of the Fitbit app takes time, as it's important to evaluate the interest of all our users, including yours along with the functionality of the app itself.

We appreciate your understanding while we work to improve this experience, and encourage you to let us know if you have any additional feedback on this and other features.

I totally agree! The new dashboard is terrible.  I love how the old dashboard was displayed. Why they say this is an improvement is beyond me. They need to listen to their customers and give us the option, or eliminate it totally. We are the customers, and it seems as if they would want to keep us.  If they think we won't switch to another competitor of something they look at as trivial, they are wrong! #fixitfitbit or my husband and I are leaving.

That's the point, the new dashboard has a very limited versatility as compared to the old layout. In the new dashboard, the users are stuck with the unchangeable upper pane, which the company has pre-selected for them. The customers cannot put a focus on their calories consumption, or heart rate, or anything else from the lower pane. The old layout had versatility and flexibility, the new one is rigid and has zero flexibility. That's what people complain about and this is one of the two main reasons why it causes so many complaints.

@Elena_Iv. Perfectly said! There is no flexibility in the new dashboard. @dannidi@And back to the pain point this thread us addressing.. even if we get use to the new dashboard why is yesterday's data (such as the active steps, heart rate, sleep etc) not matching it's date. This new implementation is very backwards. Data should match the date it was completed. Part of fitbit is seeing our progress and this inhibits that!

This response is trash.

There is no UX reason why only one part of a date specific display should change. No reason at all.

The point of the dashboard is to see a day's progress/stats at a glance. But this morning, realizing I forgot to check my dashboard at the end of yesterday, I have no way of getting that view back. It is gone forever with this implementation. Because that isn't "Today".

The design of the new dashboard has not been my favorite, aesthetically, but the limitations now in what can even be displayed? Rubbish. Pure rubbish.

Why on Earth would you do away with daily summaries for people? Do you really only want me comparing all dates of one metric at a time?

I should be able to swipe to see yesterday's progress for all my tiles. Swipe again to see the day before. See those values change day over day.

Not to mention screenshots of this dash is how a pot of folks contribute to accountability threads in fitness groups, so now if you don't screenshot your dashboard at the end of the day you can never get that snapshot. The dashboard will never again show you yesterdays data for all metrics.

I'm beyond frustrated with this. Now, for the second time since this update has been pushed out, I've run into this issue and makes me not want to bother tracking at all. If I can't review the data in an accessible way then what good is it logging everything I eat or wearing a giant plastic contraption on my arm when I sleep?

If I can't use the data from the tracker than the tracker serves no purpose. Get it together.
