You have to set the notifications ON in the fitbit app.
And the app must be active in the background.
Plus when there is a notification you have to be near the phone. (Of course)
Sometimes when the phone is "closed" it won't send any notifications. Not even to it's own screen. Then you should look at the notifications of the apps itself.
I must say, I also have missed several notifications. I don't know why and often I don't recognise the failure. But in your case you say you don't get ANY.

OK, notifications turned on:
- goto your app on the phone
- press the icon of the Charge 5 on the top left
- press on the Charge 5
- goto the section "Notifications" It could be another term, I only see the dutch names
- goto tha app-notifications
- you can check all the apps you want a notification from.
Active in background:
- goto the settings of your phone, so your not in the fitbit app anymore
and now it's tricky because on every Android phone it's different. look for battery or app-management . Maybe it's already set in your case
