On Android - Phone Constantly "Finding Location"

Is anyone else using Fitbit on their Andorid having the problem of a fast dying battery due to your phone constantly "finding location"? I noticed that my phone's battery was dying a lot lately, way sooner than it had been in the past. Around the same time I noticed this notification in my bar multiple times throughout the day, basically every single time I looked at my phone it was finding it's location. I decided to turn off my Location Services and now my battery lasts like it used to. The only thing I've done differently was buy/use my Fitbit. I can only come to the conclusion that it is from my Alta and how the app wants to locate it all the time. I don't even have it set to sync all day, just when I open the app.

I really want to be able to leave my location on but I just can't go throughout the day with my battery dying like it is.

Hello @dappledoxie,

Did you upgrade your phone to Android 6.0?  If so, Google has changed their requirements where in order to communicate through bluetooth, you must enable location services.  Fitbit is merely adhering to this new requirement to appropriately sync your tracker.

There's a post about it here.

I hope this helps.

I believe I am updated. Needing location on doesn't bother me but I'm most
concerned with it "finding location" in my notification bar all day long.
Seems like it would just do it occasionally throughout the day. Maybe I'm
just being too picky or something. 😞 I just feel like normally when an app
is causing a battery to die that fast we always look for a reason and
remedy it but I definitely don't want to uninstall my Fitbit app over it,
that would be a bummer. Maybe the act of my unlocking my phone is causing
it to find location. Hmmm

Anywho, sounds like a me problem! Haha Thank you for your help though, I
appreciate it! 😃

@dappledoxie,

There's a setting in the Fitbit App under your device for "All Day Sync", disable it and see if that helps.

If that doesn't work, then I would try to simply log out of the Fitbit App or turn off bluetooth when you don't need it to sync (though that would affect other devices as well).

I hope this helps.

Thank you for your response! Yeah, I've already got "All Day Sync" turned off. I will just keep my location off and turn it on when neeeded. The weird thing is that it will still sync my steps, sleep, etc when I open the app but it has the message at the bottom.

@dappledoxie - On your Android phone go into Settings, Battery Manager, Battery Usage, and look at the high percentage use apps to find out what is using all of your battery. You will see something like this, with the highest use apps at the top of the list - it will tell you what needs optimization or disabled to save your battery:
