Pairing fitbit with galaxy s5

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

All the folks having trouble pairing fitbit versa to galaxy s5. I believe you probably bought your s5 at Wal~Mart and are using straight talk and/or running kitkat. That particular phone may be locked and no way to upgrade the phone to a better version. I am looking into trying to root the phone to upgrade the software and switch to another carrier. Right now I can do neither. Sorry for this news, but I have been trying to pair my s5 since April, and it will not pair. Only thing to do is use a tablet or pair with windows 10.

Hello @DLMan

Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge.

Could you go a bit more in-depth in to what you mean? Please keep in mind that the minimum requirements for the app to work is that the phone is running Android 4.4 or higher and that it has Bluetooth 4.0.

Let me know if there is anything I can help you out with.

galaxy s5 phones sold a wal mart for use as their straight talk phones were, at least at the time I purchased mine, "locked" phones with kitkat 4.4 operating system. Since they were locked you could not switch carriers to another company, verizon etc. Wal mart and straight talk did not want to go to the expense of updating their operating system so they are all stuck with 4.4 I believe this particular operating system will not pair with versa. This phone cannot be "unlocked" by normal means, like a regular phone from another company. The only thing you can do is try to "root" your phone change a few other things, them you can use a chip from another company and upgrade the OS. But in doing that, you run the risk of turning your phone into a "brick", does not work and cannot be made to work. Only use is a paperweight. I have tried everything since the last part of april to get my s5 to pair, including another versa. It pairs fine with my wife's charge 2, but not with versa. I have spent countless hours researching this and their is no possible fix except taking the chance you will ruin your phone. I ended up upgrading my desktop to windows 10, and just syncing it to the computer. That means I can't use a lot of features with the versa, but do not want to throw away my phone. My versa will also sync with an apple phone and OS and my grandkid's tablet.

Any ideas?

Hello @DLMan

Thanks for the clarification and for letting me know that you have already troubleshooting on your own.

As I mentioned, Android 4.4 is the minimum for the Fitbits to sync, so it should be working with the phone.

My question in this case would be this:

  • Are you getting some sort of error message when you try to sync or pair?

Since you managed to pair your Fitbit to your computer, have you tried syncing with the phone without having to go through the pairing process?

Finally I'd recommend that you try to follow these steps. There is a possibility that they work in getting your Fitbit to sync with your S5.

Let me know if there is anything I can help you with.
