Pixel Watch 2 showing more steps than Fitbit app after being synced

Hi,

Today after while walking on a treadmill, I opened my Pixel 8 Pro. To my surprise, the steps that I've being walking weren't showing up.

I ended my exercise and tried:

  • Deleting Fitbit app storage and cache and re logging
  • Manually sync from Fitbit app both from my phone and from the watch itself.
  • Rebooting the watch
  • Shutting down the watch
  • Deleting Fitbit watch app data.
  • Removing the watch from my phone completely and trying a watch transfer (this didn't work at all, transfer kept failing).
  • Disconnecting and resetting my watch and starting from scratch

Even after all that, my Pixel Watch 2 keeps saying that I did 10.1K steps and the Fitbit app on my phone 1.519 steps.

I don't get it. This is the most basic function the app should do, sync with a device. How is this not working?

The difference isn't that dramatic for me, but my Pixel Watch 2 and the Fitbit app on my Pixel 8 Pro never agree on step count. Your case makes me think that the phone app is somehow based on GPS distance, which won't register on a treadmill.

Hello @fecfecfec

There is a known issue on the Fitbit side that affects step tracking and data syncing between Fitbit devices and the Fitbit app. This affect users of multiple Fitbit devices, including the Pixel watch.

I've seen recent Moderator posts acknowledging the issue and that the team is working on fixing the problems. They also mentioned that an app update will be rolling out in the next few days. Keep checking the Play Store for the app update and install it when it's available.

I'll check back when I see confirmation that the update has started rolling out to see if it fixed the problem you're experiencing.
