Pixel watch 3 - no GPS data for run?

Hi

Today I went for a 8 mile run wearing my pixel watch 3.

Usually, I get home, it syncs with my phone to the Fitbit app, then will sync to Strava.

Today no strava pop up

After trying multiple things, thinking the Strava sync was broken, I've now realised that there's no map or distance showing for the activity In the Fitbit app on my phone.

Why would this happen?

I haven't changed any settings

Tried a quick walk activity just now, and that worked as expected.

Why would a one off run not work?

Thanks!

Hello, unfortunately, I don't have an answer, but I also have the EXACT same problem as you, from yesterday and subsequent walks / run (to work from the train station) are fine with all the data, but not the main run yesterday. No map, no distance. just timings and that's it.

My run was a 11k run, again, like you, no settings have been changed or anything.

If anyone does have an answer that would be appreciated!

That's great to hear it's not just me...

Where do we formally raise this as a major issue?

How do we get official support or log an issue properly please?

Thanks

@adwatkin Thank you for jumping in and sharing your insights.

@Phil001 A warm welcome to the Community! Thank you for your message.

How did you record your run? Did you start it on the Pixel Watch 3 (PW3)  or did you leave the watch to autorecognize the activity?

If the run was autorecognized, and the recording was running in the background (SmartTrack) you won't see a map or GPS info on it.

To check this, turn off SmartTrack from the Fitbit app.
Sync your PW3 with the Fitbit app .
Start a run on the watch itself and with for a GPS connection.

After the run , finish the activity on the PW3 and sync it with the app. Can I change how my activities are tracked?

Hi Juan, thank you for your reply.

There was no difference at all to how I started the run, exactly the same as usual-

It was started on the PW3

Quick start tile, run icon, wait for GPS to connect, 'play'( triangle ) icon.

The GPS was tracking, I had all normal metrics during the run on my PW3.

Only noticed issue when I got home and synced with phone, and it didn't send to Strava like usual.

So far seems like an isolated incident, but @adwatkin had the same issue on the same day, so if say there was/is an issue somewhere...

Makes me a little nervous that it's going to happen again, don't really want to be losing run data like this
