Ever since the current Android app was released a couple of weeks ago, I've had problems:
1) A manual sync fails at least half the time and I have to force stop the app and try again.
2) Notifications rarely work.
Yes, I've restarted my tracker and my phone. Nexus 6P.

Hello @meresydotes, good to see you again and thank you for reporting this. So far there are no records that confirm the app is failing on these particular sections. So I suggest to give it a try to the following steps on this post: Having trouble syncing? (here's how to fix this).
If the notifications are failing too, it's possible both issues are related; since the tracker needs to have a constant communication with your phone to received notifications.
Give it a try and keep me posted how it goes.
