Is anyone able to give me a good reason why the app needs to connect to fitbit.com in order to connect via bluetooth to my fitbit? I didn't think that wifi was an integral component of bluetooth? I can understand if I wanted to update the challenge or a food log, but not really seeing the reason for a basic stats update.
I am a bit disappointed in this - I'm not at home much, so don't have a lot of ability to access my wifi to update. So, instead of checking in twice a day (on the train to/from work), as I had envisaged when I bought the fitbit, I'm only able to check in two or three times a week.
I did ask the help desk, but they didn't know and directed me to the forums to see if anyone on here knew the reason.
Thanks 🙂

All your fitbit data is held on the fitbit servers rather than on your phone. So, when you sync you need bluetooth on in order for your phone to connect to your fitbit and you need internet access (via wifi or mobile data) for the phone to connect to the fitbit servers.
The sync process takes the data from your tracker and passes it, via your phone, onto the fitbit servers. Your phone then displays what's on the servers.
