My fitbit surge does not record all my flights of stairs. Is it because I hang on to the railing? I realize it should be recording only the up legs

Hi @MarilynG  you figured it out. When I had a Fitbit that recognized elevation, I had the same issue. What I did was a silly wave at the top of the stairs to let the device know I went up a flight. Silly, yes, but it seemed to help it recognize it. Holding the rail is often necessary, so that little wave at the top of the stairs seemed to do the trick for me. The main thing is for you to stay safe climbing up or down!

Fitbit needs to see that you are stepping, before it looks for a change in elevation. Sliding the arm up the railng may not let Fitbit see that you are walking. Yes, Fitbit looks for an elevation of 10 feet. Most ceilings are 8 feet.
