Step count reduced on Fitbit app and doesn't match pixel 2 watch

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My step count in fitbit app went down a few days ago suddenly and doesn't match with the count on my pixel 2 watch. Pixel 2 Watch always shows right steps, but app on the phone shows fewer steps. For example, I had 17k steps on the watch and app shows only 9k steps even after multiple syncs. Also, it is showing significantly reduced step count (6k-7k per day) for previous days/months in the app now compared to what I was seeing in the app itself a few days ago. I am not sure what was changed 4 days ago and if it's excluding steps from activities. It was surprising to see that it adjusted step count for previous months as well. This all started 4 days ago. I have reinstalled the app, restarted watch, re-linked device. But the issue is not resolved.

Hello @sasig

I've seen other Pixel Watch users report problems with steps not properly syncing in the Fitbit app. I'm not sure if this is related to the service disruption with the Web API, but I suspect it might be. Although the service disruption description mentions data discrepancies or syncing issues with 3P apps, the timing of the Web API issue matches the timing of Fitbit users reporting data discrepancy & syncing issues with their Exercise data and step counts.

Unfortunately, the fix doesn't seem to be an easy one since the issue has been on-going for about a week.

For now, I don't think there's further troubleshooting for us to do. Hopefully, it won't be too much longer before the problem is fixed.

I am also experiencing exactly the same issue sasig, for around a week or two, my step count on my watch ( yesterday for example,10.3k, Fitbit App on Google Pixel 6 Pro showing 9.4k) and has been reduced daily.

Hope this is resolved sooner rather than later

Regards

Hello @BTCRPM

There's an update for the Android Fitbit app, ver 4.26.1, that started rolling out. I got the update this morning (25 Sep 2024).  Although I haven't seen confirmation, I'm hoping that this update fixes the step tracking issue that you've been experiencing.

The app updates tend to rollout in waves. If you don't see the update right away, keep checking.

Hi RiekoC, many thanks for your message.

Also received the update yesterday, and after a restart and some activity yesterday, looks like this has now resolved the issues with my step count matching perfectly. Shame it hasn't retrospectively fixed the earlies days, but positive moving forward.

Best regards.

Richard

Hello @BTCRPM

Thank you for your update. Glad to see that you're seeing step count syncing properly.

I still have hope that it might just take a bit of time for your data from earlier to show up in the app.

This is widespread and not isolated to watches. My sister has an Inspire and her tracker and iPhone Fitbit app also do not match. I updated with yesterday's update, still not matching. Yesterday it was off 110 steps. Today it's off 26. Last week it was off by hundreds or thousands. Others have reported that support has indicated it's a known issue and they're working on it, but clearly the latest update still hasn't resolved this.

Pixel watch has 16,070 steps but Fitbit app has 15,126.  Frustrating, why is this even an issue, both are Google products.

Hello @JoseFreshCoast

There is a known issue on the Fitbit side affecting data syncing between Fitbit devices and the app. I've seen several Moderator posts acknowledging the issue and saying that they are working on getting this problem resolved. It's a major issue affecting multiple Fitbit devices, including the Pixel Watches.

I understand the frustration. Like you, I'm dealing with the same problem.

It seems like this is an ongoing issue that is actually getting worse. A few weeks ago, the discrepancies were larger but only once or twice a week. Every day this week at some point in the day the watch and app get out of sync. The difference is small, less than 100 steps, but so annoying.

Does anyone know if this is going to be resolved any time soon? The latest update seems to have made the issue worse.

Its bad enough that the app seems to have overwrite ability to the watch - eg, my watch shows 2100 steps, but the app disagrees and I lose 100 steps on my watch, but at least they were in sync.

Hello @Ljdoglover

I, too, am more than ready to have this bug fixed.

From what I read, the app update to version 4.26.1 was supposed to fix the syncing issue between the Pixel Watch and the Fitbit app. Obviously, that wasn't the case.

FWIW, I read a Moderator post from yesterday (02 Oct 2024) stating that an app update will be rolling out in the next few days. Please keep checking in the Play Store and install the app update when it's available for you.

I'll check in after the app update rollout is confirmed to see if the new version fixes the step syncing problem for everyone (and me, too).

So the phone app updated a couple of days ago and the issue still exists. Not sure if this is true for anyone else.

I haven't seen an update for the watch app yet.

Hello @Ljdoglover

In this thread about the same issue (<-- click link), the Moderator replied today (13 Oct 2024) that he will notify Support that the version 4.27 did not resolve the step syncing issue.

My wishful thinking: It would be great if this was something that could be fixed in the back end so that we don't have to wait for another update to fix the problem.

Thanks and agree on the wishful thinking.

Is anyone else still having issues with this? I thought it was fixed yesterday, but again today there is a disconnect between the watch and app. This is beyond absurd at this point.

Yes, still going on.

I've been walking all day today:

29,265 steps on the Pixel watch 2

25,820 steps on the app

Same here.  Been an issue for months now.  Phone app says19,856 and watch says, 20,513.  Annoying!  Apple have this issue, No!

It's been more than two months. They don't fix anything. I'm tired of it, I bought an Apple Watch.

I'm also experiencing this issue, just upgraded to the pixel pro 9 still on pixel watch 2 but problem persists.

Very annoying as all my products are Google I'm well invested in the Google eco system but I'm disappointed about this
