On several occasions my fitbit will not Snyc with my Android based Samsung smart phone...tells me it can't even find it. So my steps are not tracked.

Your device holds the steps, even if it hasn't been able to sync the data to the Fitbit servers.

 

Have you tried toggling bluetooth off and on as well as restarting your phone?

 

You can also restart your device to see if that helps.
