My Ionic used to sync throughout the day without having to view my Fitbit App on my Android phone. Now if I want to update weather on my phone I have to view the Fitbit App on my phone. Only then will a sync occur. Has something been changed in the latest firmware update? I know that the clock face I was using quit working (would not reload) after the current firmware update. Was the weather App on my clock face forcing the sync (set to update hourly)?

It sounds like you might have power management enabled for the Fitbit App. 

Phone setting, Apps, Fitbit, 

Power or battery. Make sure management is disabled and background allowed.
