Fitbit Update: 9/12/19
Hey all!
We're still investigating and working on a fix for this text notification issue on Android.
In addition to not receiving the correct text notification, we're now aware this is also affecting call notifications. Some of you may only see a previous caller's name and not the person actually calling you at the time you're receiving the notification.
When we have more information for a fix, we'll announce it here in this thread. Please stay tuned for updates!
Fitbit Update: 7/30/19
Hi everyone.
We're aware of these issues with receiving only the sender's name from your text messages. This appears to have started with the Fitbit for Android app version 3.0. If you're experiencing this yourself with your Fitbit device, please know we're working on a fix.
While our team investigates this further, we just ask for your patience. Once I have information for a fix, I'll make an announcement here on this thread.

Still seeing this problem after app and firmware updates overnight. Current Charge 2 firmware version 22.22.58.0, app version 3.3 (20213416). Before the updates, I also tried restarting my Fitbit, and changing the notification settings in the app to "Sender only" and back to "Sender and message", with no effect.
I've got Transliteration on, and Encryption off. I haven't tried restarting anything since the updates. Is there any other info I can provide that will help pinpoint the problem?

Give it up. They have known about this problem for at least one month, and keep saying just be patient. Downgrade to version 2.95 and it works like a champ. Thanks for nothing, Fitbit!

Thanks a lot. I gave up and downgraded. Works like a champ! Thanks for nothing, Fitbit. You could have fixed this by just making the old version of valuable to us. I guess we are on our own, huh?

Rolled back as well, and I'm back in action. Fitbit support really dropped the ball on this, and clearly aren't in a hurry to fix it. This is my fourth and final Fitbit device. There are too many better options out there these days.

I'm just trying to maintain a civil tone here, knowing that there are actual people at Fitbit receiving this rage and bitterness. As a software developer, I understand that (1) sometimes these problems are actually tricky to pin down, even if they're easily reproduced, and (2) this is not the only job on someone's plate, and (3) rage-quitting the company as a customer isn't going to help anything.

IAmAlsoJohn - As a software developer you should know that if you push an update which causes your end user to lose functionality you need to back out the update. In this case it would mean pushing 2.95 until such time you have the time to properly fix and debug the update. I am also in the industry and would never allow or be allowed to leave our end users/clients in this state for this long.

I have Version 3.3 as of the latest update a day ago and still have the same problem. The update did NOT fix it. If someone could tell us how to downgrade back to 2.95 since it seems to work for so many, I would certainly be interested in learning how to do that! I tried A P K Mirror as someone else suggested, but can't seem to download it on my Samsung Galaxy S8+.

Thank you for posting this! I was unable to fix the problem using A P K Mirror but used the site you suggested and the problem is FIXED! I have a Samsung Galaxy S8+. Got my text notifications to come back with both the name/number AND text message! 🙂

I was planning on buying a new Fitbit until this happened. I will never buy one again and I think lots of people feel the same way.

My Blaze doesnt even tell me *who* is texting now since the Android update a few weeks ago (samsung active 8). All I get is "Text Message: View Messages" and it defeats the purpose of having the connectivity PLEASE find a fix for this. My emails and calls still show up fine, hut text messages are all but gone and some other compatible apps dont show up at all even through the fitbit software is checked to do so. 🤬

Ok, so I finally got this figured out and my Charge 2 is now back to Version 2.95 and showing both name/number AND text message. I waited for the promised update that did NOTHING to help the issue, so don't bother as it's a waste of time. Updating the App version and installing the firmware update made no difference. I tried to install 2.95 using A P K Mirror like many suggested, but for some reason it would not work for me when I tried to install the download. Then I read a post from a user who's husband has a Samsung Galaxy S8 (mine is an 8+). They found a different website and I downloaded the "downgrade" from there, where it installed with no problem... and now I'm up and running back to normal! Scroll through this forum to find Message 168 posted by Mblucky on 7/28/19 at 6:21 for the website. I tried to include it here but Fitbit wouldn't let me include the link in my post and Mblucky figured out how to work around that. Go to the url from your phone where you will download 2.95. Then be sure to go to Google Play Store > Fitbit and turn off automatic update by clicking on the 3 dots on the upper right corner and unchecking the "Enable auto update box" (otherwise it will eventually update again causing the same problems). Done! I spent many hours trying to solve this issue and this was what finally worked for me. Good luck! And thanks again, Mblucky! 🙂

Thanks for your extensieve explanation, but Fitbit should finally lift their lazy butts and start working on a solution.
Indeed, the app update and the firmware update did absolutely nothing.

I have attempted to download the 2.95 version from a few different sources suggested on this thread and have had no success. Just when I think it is installed I get an error sign and a message "App Not Installed". Seriously FitBit, get it together. Many of us drop hundreds of dollars on these devices and to have such a bad response to remedying an issue we ALL are having is nonsense! Going forward, as soon as this watch craps out you will not be seeing me purchase a replacement or "upgrade" after this. This has been 2 months of not having a feature that I heavily need to rely on.

Did you uninstall the app first? Sometimes this will happen when the same app is already installed.
