My sister and I both got the surge, I have an S6 edge and she has an S5 - I have been able to pair the devices with no issues, whereas she is only receiving the calls. We tried unpairing with the phone and starting that over and we even returned it in case it was a faulty surge, however still no text notifications, we could use some help!

I'm having the same issue. Took multiple attempts on my S5 to connect, but it finally went through after the 8th attempt. Now I don't get the watch vibrating to alert me of a text.
