How do you turn off your information being sent to some central data collector? I would just like it to be only stored on my phone or tablet for my personal use.

On the fitbit.com dashboard, if you go to settings, your device, there is an option at bottom "remove this device from your account". However, be sure you really want to do that. Very little data is stored actually on your device or phone.  I'm not sure but suspect then fitbit becomes just a one day at a time measurement device and everything is lost each midnight.  It might not even store your data such as weight, age, height used to calculate calories and stride length.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
