Turn on gps location

My runs never show a map anymore.  When I look at the settings UNDER EXCERCISE for walk,  run and bike ride it says "GPS will not be turned on".  How do i make it do say it will be turned on?

I have already told my phone to allow location sharing with other apps.  I turned ON auto location in the fitbit app.

Hello @Sundazed, welcome aboard to the Fitbit Community! I'm wondering how are you tracking your exercise? I saw on your Community profile you have a Charge 2, so is it with Connected GPS or with MobileRun?

GPS feature works with your phone to deliver real-time activity stats like distance and pace during outdoor workouts, so the only thing you need is GPS-enabled mobile device for this to work. Just make sure in your phone settings has the GPS option is turn On and you are not in Saving Mode, as this option may disable some of your phone features.

Additionally to this review the following:

  1. Make sure your phone can track your activity when you're out of Wi-Fi range, usually by making sure Cellular Data is turned on.
  2. Make sure GPS can continue tracking while your phone is locked.
  3. Make sure your phone can identify your location, usually by enabling Location Services within your privacy settings. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap the + icon.

Keep me posted how it goes in case the issue persists.

Do you mean turn on gps location for the fitbit?

I actually uninstallef then re installed the app and during the reinstall it asked me if i want to allow gps tracking.  Of course i said yes,  but nothing has changed.   I do not find "turn on gps tracking" in my fitbit app.

I just thought off something.   The fitbit watch  is supposed to be tracked by itself right?   Not supposed to need my phone with me am i?

Hi there @Sundazed, My apologies since I was absent for a while. About your query of turning GPS location, is the option that was prompted to you after reinstall the Fitbit app on your phone.

Regarding your question of leaving your phone while you are doping exercise. The answer is yes, for Connected GPS you need to carry your phone with you, since the GPS is enable through your phone sensors. If your phone is not in range, your tracker won't be able to track your GPS course and it is possible only your exercise details will be synced not including GPS data.

The Fitbit Surge and the new Smartwatch Ionic are the only two products that has GPS built in, allowing to track your GPS data without the need of your phone.

See you later and stay tuned to the Fitbit Community for more questions.

Thanks Roberto,
Yes,  my gps is on accurate and i have carried my phone with me since i asked that question and still,  my walk/runs do not get mapped. When i look within the fitbit app, under excercise/walk it says gps will not be turned on.  Under my phone's settings/location/on.accurate out shows that fitbit has not requested gps location. But when i reinstalled the fitbit app it specifically requested permisdion to do so.
What do you think?
