My brother bought me a Fitbit Alta for my birthday today. I charged it fully and downloaded the app on my Huawei P8 lite phone. I've set up the Fitbit on the app and it synchronised this morning. When I log into the app it gives me to the option for a firmware update available I've followed all the step and instructions rigidily it's searchers for my Fitbit it's tries to connect and fails to connect. I've restarted the Fitbit and I've the latest version of the app on my phone I can't understand the problem I'm a strong fitness person and I've heard some great things about these Fitbits but never got one I just used the my fitness pal range of apps I'm very disappointed and frustrated that this is not working.

Hi there @Aoifehandball, great to have you as a new member of the Fitbit Community! I'm sorry for the late response and thank you for letting me know the steps you have tried to address this issue on your own.
I would like to bring again the subject of the version of the Fitbit app. There was a new release that happened after you shared your concern. For more details please refer to this post.
Now if the issue persist regardless of the Fitbit app version, It would be good to reset the app as well: Log out from your Fitbit app and go to your phone settings. Access to the App manager option and look for the Fitbit app in your downloaded apps list. Once you are there, clear the app cache and data and proceed to "Force Stop" the app. (This may vary depending of the Android device and the OS version)
Finish the workaround by restarting your phone. When your phone has initialized, go back to your app and try again to update the firmware of the app.
It's important to mention, the Huawei P8 is not listed as compatible. Despite this doesn't mean it won't work; since a majority of Android phones running version 4.4 or higher will work with our products, we cannot guarantee optimal performance on devices for which we have not tested and confirmed compatibility. For more details please refer to this article: Which phones and tablets can I use with my Fitbit watch or tracker?
See you around and hope this helps to get you back on track.

Hi I have tried everything that you have said to do and it's not working.
